On Thursday 9th July Chorlton Park’s Orchestra performed to Key Stage 2 during the Going for Gold Assembly.

The orchestra consists of about 20 children who learn instruments both inside and outside of school, that have got to an appropriate standard to enable them to be able to play in a musical ensemble alongside other Chorlton Park musicians. The orchestra is conducted by Mr Burke who rehearses with them every Tuesday afternoon.

The performance was fantastic, both the children and staff were very impressed. The orchestra played two constrasting pieces. It was obvious that both Mr Burke and the orchestra members had worked incredibly hard during the year.

Maybe there are some musicians who are getting to a standard where they would like to join orchestra next year. If you are one of these people, it would be great to hear from you! Remember you don’t have to learn an instrument with the Music Service in school to play in the orchestra. If you have your lessons outside of school, then you can join as well. I look forward to hearing from you!

On Monday 5th July Mr Billington took the string players from Chorlton Park to The Royal Northern College of Music where they took part in a strings workshop as part of the Manchester Music Services Showcase week.
Lots of fun was had by all!

On the last Friday morning of the Summer 1 half term, parents and children were treated to a superb musical performance from the brass and woodwind ensemble and the school choir.
A big thankyou and well done goes to all the children who took part in the performance and thanks also to all the parents who watched and supported the children.
I think we can all agree that it was a fantastic way to start the morning off! I certainly had a smile on my face for the rest of the day!
Pictures to follow!

Last Wednesday (19th May), 4SH went to St. John’s Primary School to take part in a Chorlton Sing Around with all the other primary schools in the Chorlton area. The afternoon was really enjoyable, everyone had lots of fun singing all the songs.

As a little treat for the last Friday of the half term (28th May), some of Chorlton Park’s musicians will be performing in the main school hall in the morning from 8.50am. After you’ve dropped your child off if you fancy having a listen then please come and join us. We look forward to seeing you there!

A big thankyou to all the Year 3 children who performed in assembly on Friday (14th May). Many of you haven’t been learning your instruments for long, so I was very impressed that you were willing to perform and how well you did so! Well done!

The children in Year 4 have been working very hard during PPA in music with Mrs Curtis. Each of the Year 4 classes have composed a piece of music which they feel portrays the picture ‘The Great Wave of Kanagawa’ by the Japanese artist Hokusai. I’ll post some pictures in my next post.
